Site information

What we collect, and what we do not

This page sets out what a visit to this site does and does not involve. It is a static guide, so there are no accounts, no sign-up forms and no requests for your name, email or payment details.

A static site with no accounts

This site is a set of published pages. There is no login, no member area and no form that asks you to register. Reading a page does not create an account, and nothing on the site asks for your name, date of birth, address or payment details. If you see a request for personal information on a site that looks like this one, treat it with suspicion and close the page.

Because there is no account, there is nothing to log in to and nothing to cancel later. The only information that may be recorded is the technical data described below, which is generated by your browser and the servers that deliver the pages. That data is not tied to a name or a profile on this site.

Analytics and the technical data they see

If analytics is used on this site, it records aggregate information about how pages are found and used. That typically includes the pages viewed, the referring page, the type of device and browser, and a coarse location derived from the network address. It is used to understand which pages are useful and which are not, and it is not used to identify you.

Analytics data is not combined with any personal profile on this site, because no such profile exists. Server logs may hold network addresses for a limited period for security and fault-finding, then they are discarded or overwritten. No analytics figure on this site is used to contact a reader or to build a marketing list.

Cookies and the Privacy Act 1988

Cookies are small files a site or an analytics service may place in your browser to remember settings or to count visits. This site does not use cookies to store personal details, and you can block or delete cookies in your browser settings without losing access to the pages. Blocking them may affect how some analytics counts are recorded, but not what you can read.

The Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles set the framework for handling personal information in Australia. This site is designed to hold as little personal information as possible, which keeps its obligations small and its handling simple. Nothing in this page is legal advice, and the Act applies according to its own terms.

Questions

Do I need to create an account to read this site?

No. There is no sign-up, no login and no member area. Reading any page does not require you to give a name, email address or payment detail.

How do I ask for something held about me to be removed?

Write to the editorial desk using the contact route on the site and describe what you want removed. Because this site does not ask for personal details, there may be nothing held to remove, but any request will be considered under the Privacy Act 1988.
